Overview
Technomancy Online is an exploration of how the human spiritual and technological impulses are not opposing forces but the same force expressed in the language of their time, tracing a continuous thread from fire and the Gutenberg press through the telegraph, the printing of grimoires, the birth of cyberpunk fiction, the rise of neopaganism and chaos magick, the rave culture of the 1990s and into the present moment of AI, virtual reality, mind uploading, and open-source religion.
This website argues cyberspace is not a simulation of reality but a genuine domain and the boundaries between meatspace and cyberspace, sacred and profane, human and machine, organic and inorganic, are dissolving into a single coevolving system in which consciousness is a property of pattern rather than of substrate. Here we examine technopaganism, technoshamanism, cyber animism, technomysticism and technomancy as the contemporary expressions of the oldest human practices; shamanic journeying, ritual, divination, sigil work and the pursuit of gnosis. Now conducted through synthesizers, algorithms, VR headsets, Discord servers and lines of code.
Drawing on cybernetics, systems theory, memetics, the entropic brain hypothesis, the history of dub and remix culture, the philosophy of the cyborg, the theology of Gnosticism and Thelema, the ethics of open-source software and free cosmogony and the speculative futures of transhumanism, this website posits the spiritual, technological and consciousness-expanding are one continuous, feedback-driven process. Wherein the DJ is the shaman, the coder is the sorcerer, the rave is the temple, the digital altar is as real as the stone circle and the work of the 21st-century practitioner is not to choose between the sacred and the digital but to learn to work within the loop consciousness and its medium are already co-creating together.
